Prevent cold weather from causing damage to your home:

• Make sure all exposed pipework is protected (including garages and outside taps)
• Be aware of where your mains water stop valve is located and know how to turn your water off
• Try and keep your home reasonably warm. In particularly cold weather it will be helpful to keep the heating on at low temperature during the night
• Roof space – try and make sure that any pipework and water cylinder is well lagged. During periods of very cold weather it is a good idea to open the hatch to the roof space. It may add slightly to your heating bills but will give additional protection to any tank and pipes in the loft.
• Ensure that your gutters and downpipes are clear of leaves and debris and working effectively.

If you get a BURST PIPE

• Turn off the water at the mains stop valve
• Switch off the electricity at the mains
• Switch off any water heater
• Turn off the central heating system
• Let any solid fuel fire burn down
• Open ALL taps to drain your system, collect water in your bath for washing and WC flush
• Warn neighbours who may suffer damage
• Contact us as soon as possible
